Dual Credit
What is Dual Credit?
Dual credit courses are college courses taken for both high school and college credit by students who have not yet completed their HS Diploma or GED. The courses need to be approved by both the high school and the college where you want to take courses, so check with your high school counselor first. Tuition and books for dual credit courses are covered.
Courses must be able to apply toward a postsecondary degree or certificate program. Remedial and developmental courses at the college may not be taken for dual credit, since they do not count toward a degree or certificate program.
Keep in mind that concurrent enrollment courses (different from dual credit) will not be counted for high school credit at NMCA. Concurrent enrollment is when students are enrolled in college but did not go through their high school's dual credit process. While students may receive college credit for these courses, they will not receive high school credit for them, and families are responsible for all expenses for concurrent enrollment courses.
NMCA has agreements with the following colleges:

Not sure if this program is right for you? Here are a few things to discuss with your high school counselor and your parent or guardian prior to enrolling in courses:
- Enrolling in college courses is a commitment of your time and energy! Please consider whether enrolling in dual credit courses is a realistic option based on your extracurricular activities and family schedules.
- Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from campus for in person courses. Students parking on campus may be required to purchase a parking permit.
- The Dual Enrollment academic calendars start and end at different dates than most high school calendars. Students are expected to attend their DC courses even if their high school is not in session for a particular day.
- Students must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA in all their HS and college courses to continue in the Dual Credit Program.
- Grades earned through dual credit enrollment will be a permanent part of your academic record, at both high school and college, and can affect future financial aid eligibility.
- While NMCA pays for tuition and books, some courses may have specific course related fees that are not covered by the dual credit program. These fees will be the student’s responsibility.
